The International Council of Nurses (ICN), a federation comprised of more than 130 national nursing associations, who all represent over 20 million nurses worldwide, has established its 2021 focus for International Nurses Day in highlighting the future of nursing and innovation.
International Nurses Day takes place, annually, on May 12, is meant to highlight the role of nurses, their achievements and all they do for the healthcare industry. The day commemorates the birth of statistician, nurse and social reformer Florence Nightingale. The event, itself, was established in 1974.
It is nothing new that the COVID-19 pandemic has shook the healthcare industry, as well as forced it to enhance how medicine is practiced. The 2021 case study is set to delve into the innovation and future of nursing. Next year’s campaign, ‘A Voice to Lead – A Vision for Future Healthcare’, looks to introduce new policies and technology in advancing nurses in preparation for the future. The ICN is also asking nurses to share stories as part of the study, which should be submitted to indstories@icn.ch.
