MedPro Explorers preparing for the English exam requirements will notice changes that went into effect the past year. Previously, Explorers had to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Test of English as a Foreign Language, the Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT), but now they have even more options. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has added several exams to its list of acceptable tests for foreign-educated healthcare professionals.
In addition to the IELTS and TOEFL iBT, candidates can take or use results from the Pearson Test of English (PTE), the Occupational English Test (OET), the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), and the Michigan English Test (MET), to apply to live and work in the U.S. All of the tests cover Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing with paper and digital options. Although certain state nursing boards only accept some tests, their lists are constantly expanding, and the boards are accepting more English exams each day.
IELTS
MedProU® continues to provide all the necessary training for Explorers to pass the IELTS successfully. IELTS examinations are scheduled at least four times each month, starting in January. For VisaScreen® requirements, candidates must score a 7 on Speaking and a 6.5 overall. For the TOEFL iBT VisaScreen® requirements, candidates must score 81 overall, 24 on the Speaking section, and a combined score of 57 for Listening, Reading, and Writing. The test takes three hours, and results are provided within four to eight days for digital tests and 11 to 13 days for paper results.

MedPro International has partnered with Pearson Education Limited and is the first U.S. healthcare partner to be onboarded to the PTE Partner Portal.
