MedPro International Explorers got an early start to the Thanksgiving holiday at the 11th Annual Memorial Cardiac & Vascular Institute Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot. Over 50 explorers arrived at Las Olas Oceanside Park in Fort Lauderdale before sunrise to join the more than 3,000 runners, joggers, and walkers for the 5k race along A1A.

“We were all eager to come out for the race and even reminded each other to set the alarm so we could wake up early,” said Explorer Alex Viray. “The organizers and volunteers were so welcoming. We had free shades, water, and fresh fruits. The crowd was friendly. Some of the runners were focused on warming up. Others were just laughing and dancing.” Viray and his fellow Explorers were eager to burn a few calories before enjoying Thanksgiving dinner. “It’s really nice that MedPro sponsored an event like that for us to experience. It was a beautiful morning,” said Viray, who will start a position in Texas once he finishes MedProU.
Participants enjoyed a gorgeous view of Fort Lauderdale Beach, while raising money for a good cause. Proceeds from the event benefitted Leadership Broward Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County, whose programs help strengthen the local community in large and small ways. The first 2800 to cross the finish line were awarded some serious hardware for their efforts. “We did the 5k run and got a pretty nice medal,” said Explorer Cristy Lasquite who heads to California once she completes MedProU.
