Tucked between the Appalachian Mountains and the coastal plains in the Piedmont region is Greensboro, the third-largest city in North Carolina. Known for its fast-growing research centers and Southern hospitality, Greensboro offers big-city amenities without the high prices. Affordable options abound for singles and families in the city’s 76 neighborhoods. Though the area occasionally gets snow, Greensboro technically has a humid subtropical climate and is rated a 7.6  out of 10 by best places. Residents are just an hour and a half away from a mountain hike and a three-hour drive from a day at the beach.

“Gate City”

The nickname “Gate City” dates back to the 1800s when a rail line was run through the city. Greensboro is also known as “Jeansboro,” commemorating the city’s long history with the denim and textile industries. Though textiles have played a major role in the city’s history and development, today, Greensboro is better known for research and college sports, especially college basketball, the motivation behind its third moniker, “Tournament Town,” for the annual NCAA and ACC college athletic tournaments held in the city.

Economy

Aerospace and aviation, financial services, chemicals, automotive manufacturing, consumer products, and apparel are all major industries in the city. Plus, Greensboro’s proximity to Research Triangle Park and Piedmont Triad Park makes it a great location for healthcare professionals.

Local Medical Facilities

Greensboro has seven hospitals within the city and nearby, rated “High Performing” by U.S. News & World Report. Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, Health-Davie Medical Center, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health-Davie Medical Center, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health-High Point Medical Center, and Novant Health Medical Park Hospital all ranked in at least one procedure/condition.
