MedPro International is placing foreign-educated healthcare professionals in exciting positions throughout the United States. This week we take a closer look at the Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky area.
Bluegrass Country
The Lexington-Fayette area, located in the heart of “Bluegrass Country,” is named for the type of grass that grows in the region’s fertile soil. Lexington is the second-largest city in Kentucky and the 28th-largest city in the U.S. based on land size. Lexington combines old-world charm and the ambitions of a growing city where residents enjoy a lower cost of living.
Many MedPro International Explorers call Lexington home, including Daisy Award nominee Anubha Soni. Soni, a registered nurse at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, was recognized for giving extraordinary, compassionate care last spring. Originally from India, Anubha joined MedPro International a year ago and celebrated her first anniversary with the company last May.
Economy
The equestrian industry is a billion-dollar industry in Kentucky and Lexington’s main economic engine. Lexington is home to the greatest collection of thoroughbred horse farms in the world. But the title for the area’s largest employer goes to the University of Kentucky, with more than 15,000 employees. Amazon.com, Baptist Health, the state and local government, Lockheed Martin, and Lexmark International, Inc. employ at least a thousand residents.
