Companies That Help You Find ‘APPiness’ in a New City (Part 2)

Welcome to our second installment in finding ‘APPiness’ in your new city series. You know, one of the most-exciting perks to being a MedPro Explorer, especially for foreign-educated nurses, is in heading to new destinations in America. Upon arrival, however, it can be a little overwhelming. We’re here to help. Whether you’re a registered nurse, medical technologist or therapist looking for grocery delivery, moments of zen or social activities, the below five applications can absolutely serve you well in your new city and in other parts of the country too.

  1. Bumble

Having previously launched as a swipe-based dating application, Bumble now offers two other services, allowing users to filter through three versions, Bumble Date, Bumble Bizz and Bumble BFF. In Date mode, women are required to make the first move in starting the conversation after matching, shaking up outdated gender norms. In Bizz mode, it serves similarly to that of LinkedIn in allowing users to build and expand a professional network. Lastly, in BFF mode, you can build a social network of meaningful friendships and solicit ideas for the weekend.

  1. Calm

When looking to take a deep breath, relieve stress or just unwind, the Calm app has everything you’re looking for. This app prides itself on providing services to improve user’s mental fitness and in making you happy and healthy, while offering masterclasses in active and inactive meditation. There are numerous functions to the app in helping you sleep, focus, relax and even workout! One of its coolest features includes mindful living calendars, which maps out both active practices and restful reflection into your daily routines.

  1. Instacart

Chances are you will find Instacart in dozens of stores around the country. This app makes it possible to virtually shop for your groceries and have them delivered, all from the comfort of your home. The app allows for you to satisfy your grocery or item list(s), while also making adjustments on the fly, whether a product is not available or if you decide you want something else. Your assigned shopper will be in constant contact via the text message feature. There are also plenty of daily deals available as well, so the shopper is saving time and money.

  1. Yummly

You don’t have to be an all-star in the kitchen, thanks to the Yummly application, which offers thousands of simple recipes, regardless of your diet, to make fast meals or even meal prep for the week too. Each recipe is broken dissected in how many ingredients you will need, how many calories are in your portions, nutritional values and how long it will take to cook and steps in making it. There are also reviews from actual people who also take a stab at it and offers an engaging community in exchanging ideas and different spins on the meals too. You can now even map out your weeks with a new ‘Meal Planner’ feature and take guided recipe courses too.

  1. Hopper

You can explore America outside of your city as well, per travel applications like Hopper, which allow you to take to the skies and never overpay. The app even helps you book hotels as well, which can save you up to 40%! This app distances itself from others as it predicts a 95% accuracy in its prices, but doesn’t make you suffer through ads, spam and other popups, while you’re trying to secure your trip.
