The global observance aims to promote proper hand hygiene within the healthcare system, but also in supporting the cause for improved hand hygiene among the world’s population as well. The Five-Step Process for Optimal Handwashing
- Step 1: Wet your hands.
- Step 2: Add soap.
- Step 3: Bring soap and water to a lather.
- Step 4: Massage hands with lather, interlocking fingers, scrubbing fingernails, thumbs, and the backs of hands as well. Sing the Birthday Song twice while doing this method.
- Step 5: Wash lather off and, before turning water off, dry your hands, while using the same paper towel to turn the faucet off.
